Why An Angry Person Always Causes Problems In The Family

By Christopher Hall

We’ve been talking about the question, “How do you deal with anger?” And particularly, “How do you deal with family members that are angry?” The Bible gives us some precepts on how to deal with anger. In fact, the Bible gives us quite a few commands and principles about how to deal with anger.

Last week we talked about 4 of them. There are about 18. I don’t think I will get around to sharing all of them with you. But let’s start out by looking at some more Bible verses about anger and how the Bible tells us to deal with it.

The Bible teaches us that a person that cannot control their temper will have problems all of their life. That’s what the Scripture says. If you know of anybody that has a problem controlling their temper, you have probably already found this to be true.

Proverbs 15:18 - A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

The idea here is that a person who is full of wrath or uncontrollable anger just keeps stirring up trouble. The longer he lives, the more trouble he is going to get into.

I like this next verse. This especially sums it up.

Proverbs 19:19 - A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

It doesn’t matter how many times you bail somebody out who is short-tempered and doesn’t know how to control their anger, you are going to have to bail them out again. As long as a person can’t control their temper, they are going to get into trouble.

The Bible repeats it over and over again.

Proverbs 29:22 - An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

More times than not, when the Bible attributes anger or wrath to a person, it’s typically to a man. I don’t know if God just knows that men are many times short-tempered. Not to say that ladies can’t have problems with anger, but usually it is men who are wrathful. It is men who don’t know how to control themselves. I don’t know why that is the case. It is just our nature, I suppose.

So more times than not, it’s an angry man or a wrathful man that the Bible talks about. I haven’t found reference yet to a woman of great wrath. But the Bible definitely teaches that an angry person will have problems all of their life.
