Product Creation – If You Don’t Have Your Own Product, You Are Working Too Hard

By Christopher Hall

The Internet is an amazing invention. The Internet has given people like me and you an audience of millions and millions of people to share our knowledge. But have you noticed that most successful people on the Internet have their own products they sell? Here are 3 reasons why you are losing out if you aren’t selling your own product.

1. You don’t have to depend on others – when I first started in Internet marketing, I sold products as an affiliate. As an affiliate, I had to depend a whole lot on others. I had to apply to companies so I could sell their product. I had to be approved. I had to sell their products on their terms. I had to use certain marketing methods. I had to wait on my commissions. Every step of the way I had to depend on someone else. With my own product, I don’t have to worry about any of this. All I have to be concerned about is creating a product people need and getting people to buy that product.

2. You can control your own product – this point ties closely into point #1. When you have your own product, you have complete control. For example, if you want to run a special, you can cut your price in half. You can double your price if you feel you are not asking enough. You can even give your product away. You can market your product through email, keywords, articles, ads, etc. You get paid immediately, and you don’t have to wait 6 weeks to get the check in the mail. Until you have your own product you can control, you can’t be 100% sure that you can always make money on the Internet.

3. You can build your own brand – to me, this is one of the most important aspects of having your own product. You can begin to build your very own brand that can never be taken away. You can sell other people’s products – you can even sell a lot – and make money in the short term. But it you want to make money over the long haul, you need to build your own brand. Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Google – these are people or companies that have built their brand and will continue to make money for years and years even if they don’t lift another finger. Having your own product and building your own brand – that is where the money is and that is where you want to be.
