3 Steps To Raising A Successful Child

By Christopher Hall

We all want successful children. We may have different opinions of what “success” is, but we know we want our children to have that success. So how can you raise your children to be the success you want them to be? Here are 3 steps that will get you started.

1. Realize That Your Child Will Test You

You will be tested. Even young children will test you to see if you will do what you say you will do. Sometimes children will disobey you for the sole purpose of testing you. When this happens, you must stand firm. I hear so many parents say to children 4-5 years old, “If you don’t sit down and be quiet, then you’ll be in trouble.” Then when the child gets up and starts making noise, nothing happens. If your children don’t respect what you say when they are young, you will be in a world of hurt when they get older.

2. Spend Time With Your Child

Studies have shown that the average dad in America spends 47 seconds a day talking to their child. Most of us spend more than 47 seconds a day just talking to our pets! Children must have quality time with their parents. Whether you spend time with your child or not, you are still their biggest influence whether for good or bad. A parent cannot make their child successful – they can only teach them the tools of success. If you don’t take the time to teach them the tools of success, chances are that they won’t successful.

3. Put Your Spouse First And Your Child Second

The best way to raise a successful child is to create a successful environment for them to grow in. When you married your spouse, you dedicated your life to them. The first commitment in your family should always be to your spouse. When you create a loving and caring environment for your children to grow in, your children will learn how to love and care. And that is the most important type of success any child could ever have.
