3 Secrets to Creating A Happy Christian Marriage

I put Christian in this title because the steps I mention in this article come from the Bible. But just because these steps come from the Bible does not mean that they won’t work in any marriage. You can use these Biblical steps in any marriage today, and you will begin to see results immediately. 1. Pray For Your Marriage Together Most people understand that humans have a spiritual aspect. Few things can heal the hurts, soothe the pain, and build a stronger marriage than two spouses coming together in spiritual prayer. There is just a feeling of peace and comfort that comes over a couple when they pray together. If you currently don’t incorporate prayer as a daily step in your marriage, you should. Don’t be intimidated. Your prayers don’t have to be long or in-depth. Just start with a 30-second prayer each day. Ask for God’s help on your marriage. 2. Speak Carefully When my wife and I first began dating, we verbally picked at each other a lot. I don’t mean we picked at each other to be ugly, but we verbally battled to see who could prove their point the best. We didn’t realize it at the time, but this verbal sparring would lead to problems in our marriage. Once we became emotionally involved, what started out as a friendly, verbal competition soon degraded into hurtful, verbal attacks. Be careful what you say. If your words aren’t building the other person up, then they are tearing them down. 3. Focus On Peace Rather Than Anger No one can get under your skin like your spouse. They know which buttons to push, and they know exactly when to push them for the maximum effect. Many times, rather than getting angry, you should take the high road and focus on peace. It is not our job to get even with our spouse. Never turn your marriage into a vindictive competition – such competition will ultimately destroy your marriage. |
